How is SplitFair different from splitting the bill evenly?

Instead of dividing the whole check by the number of people, SplitFair splits by what each person actually ordered. You tap each item to the people who had it — and if two or more share an item, it's split evenly between just them. Someone who only had a salad never subsidizes someone else's steak.

Does SplitFair work offline?

Completely. SplitFair makes no network calls at all — it works with airplane mode on, forever. There is nothing to load and nothing to sync.

How do I split a shared item between several people?

Tap the item and select everyone who shared it. SplitFair divides that item evenly among the people you pick and shows the split visually on the price. You can assign as many people as you like to any item.

Do I need an account to use SplitFair?

No. There are no accounts, no sign-up, and no login. You open the app and start splitting immediately.

How are tax and tip handled?

Enter tax and tip once for the whole bill. SplitFair prorates them across each person in proportion to their share of the items, so everyone pays their fair part of the tax and tip — never a flat, equal share regardless of what they ordered.

What data does SplitFair collect?

None. No analytics, no tracking, no third-party SDKs, and no ads. Your bills and friends roster stay on your device and are never uploaded. The App Store privacy label reads "Data Not Collected."

Do the per-person totals always add up to the bill?

Yes — always. All money is handled in whole cents and divided with a largest-remainder method, so the per-person totals sum to the exact grand total for any bill, any number of people, and any tax or tip. There is never a stray or missing cent.

Where is my data stored, and is it backed up?

Your bills and friends roster are stored locally on your device. If you use iCloud Backup, that on-device data may be included in your encrypted device backup, exactly like other apps — but SplitFair itself never transmits it anywhere.

How much does SplitFair cost?

SplitFair is free, with no ads and no subscriptions.

Does SplitFair remember past bills and balances?

Yes. It keeps a local library of your past bills and tracks a running who-owes-whom balance with each friend — like "Ben owes you $51.93" — so you can settle up over time. Everything is stored on your device.

Can I use SplitFair for groceries or trips, not just restaurants?

Absolutely. Any shared bill works — a grocery run, a weekend trip, a group order. Enter the items, assign who had what, add any tax or tip, and SplitFair does the rest.

Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms") carefully before using SplitFair (the "App").

Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using SplitFair, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.

You represent that you are at least 13 years old and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms. If you are using the App on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have the authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

Intellectual Property Rights

The App and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by Zakaria Fatahi and are protected by international copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, and other intellectual property laws.

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for your personal, non-commercial purposes, subject to these Terms.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, lease, reverse engineer, or create derivative works of the App or any part thereof without our prior written consent.

Prohibited Activities

You agree that you shall not:

Use the App for any illegal or unauthorized purpose
Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
Violate the intellectual property rights of others
Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the App
Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the App or its systems

Termination

We may terminate or suspend your access to SplitFair immediately, without prior notice or liability, for any reason, including breach of these Terms.

You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it from your device.

Upon termination:

Your right to use the App will cease immediately
Any locally stored data may be removed when you uninstall the App
All provisions that should survive termination shall survive, including ownership provisions, warranty disclaimers, indemnification, and limitations of liability

Disclaimers

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT:

The App will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free
The results obtained from the App will be accurate or reliable
Any errors in the App will be corrected

Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL WE BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE APP.

Dispute Resolution & Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the applicable jurisdiction, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be resolved exclusively in the courts of the applicable jurisdiction.

Before initiating formal proceedings, the parties agree to attempt to resolve disputes informally for at least thirty (30) days.

Apple App Store Terms

If you access SplitFair through the Apple App Store, the following additional terms apply and form the Apple-required licensed-application end user license agreement (EULA) addendum:

These Terms are between you and Zakaria Fatahi, not with Apple Inc. ("Apple"). Zakaria Fatahi alone is responsible for the App and its content.
The license granted to you is limited to a non-transferable license to use the App on any Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions (except that the App may be accessed, acquired, and used by other accounts associated with the purchaser via Family Sharing or volume purchasing)
Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support services with respect to the App. If any maintenance or support is required, Zakaria Fatahi — not Apple — will be solely responsible
In the event of any failure of the App to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any) for the App. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the App
Zakaria Fatahi — not Apple — is responsible for addressing any user or third-party claims relating to the App or your possession and use of it, including: product-liability claims; any claim that the App fails to conform to any applicable legal or regulatory requirement; claims arising under consumer-protection, privacy, or similar legislation
In the event of any third-party claim that the App or your possession and use of the App infringes that third party's intellectual property rights, Zakaria Fatahi — not Apple — will be solely responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement, and discharge of that claim
You represent and warrant that (i) you are not located in a country that is subject to a U.S. Government embargo, or that has been designated by the U.S. Government as a "terrorist supporting" country; and (ii) you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties
You must comply with any applicable third-party terms of agreement when using the App (for example, your wireless data service agreement)
Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and upon your acceptance of these Terms, Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary

EU / EEA Consumer Rights

If you access SplitFair as a consumer located in the European Union or European Economic Area, you have additional rights under EU consumer-protection law that cannot be limited by these Terms.

Right of Withdrawal

You have the right to withdraw from a contract for the provision of digital content within 14 days of purchase, without giving any reason, unless the digital content has been delivered and performance has begun with your prior express consent and acknowledgement that you lose your right of withdrawal.

By initiating the download or first launch of paid digital content, you expressly consent to immediate performance and acknowledge that you lose the right of withdrawal for that specific purchase.

Online Dispute Resolution (ODR)

The European Commission provides an Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) platform available at https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr. You may contact us directly at [email protected]. We are neither obliged nor willing to participate in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board unless required by law.

Mandatory Consumer Rights

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes any rights you have under mandatory applicable consumer-protection laws of your country of residence, including statutory warranty rights for digital content under Directive (EU) 2019/770.

Export Controls

SplitFair is classified under the U.S. Export Administration Regulations as EAR99 and may be downloaded or used internationally except in countries embargoed by the United States or by any user on the U.S. Treasury Department's list of Specially Designated Nationals or the U.S. Commerce Department's Table of Denial Orders.

By using the App, you represent and warrant that you are not located in any such country or on any such list, and that you will not use the App in violation of any applicable export-control laws or regulations.

Accessibility

We are committed to making SplitFair accessible to the widest possible audience, including users with disabilities.

We aim to conform to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA where applicable. Accessibility of mobile applications is an ongoing effort and we welcome feedback on how to improve.

If you encounter an accessibility barrier in the App, please let us know by contacting [email protected]. We will investigate and respond within a reasonable timeframe.

Internet Connection & Data Charges

The App can function without an internet connection.

You are responsible for any data charges incurred through your mobile carrier or internet service provider when using the App. We are not responsible for any charges applied by your service provider.

Modifications

We reserve the right to modify or replace these Terms at any time. If a revision is material, we will provide at least thirty (30) days' notice prior to any new terms taking effect.

By continuing to access or use SplitFair after those revisions become effective, you agree to be bound by the revised Terms.

General Provisions

Entire Agreement: These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the App
Severability: If any provision is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in effect
Waiver: Our failure to enforce any right or provision shall not constitute a waiver of that right or provision
Assignment: You may not assign these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign our rights and obligations freely
Electronic Communications: You consent to receive communications from us electronically
