Tax and tip are entered once for the whole bill, and SplitFair shares them out fairly — in proportion to what each person ordered.

Enter the tax

Type the tax amount from the receipt. It's spread across everyone by their share of the items, so a person with a larger order carries a proportionally larger part of the tax.

Choose a tip

Pick a tip preset (like 15%, 18%, 20%, or 25%) or enter a custom amount. A live readout shows the tip in money as you change it.

Tip on pre-tax or total

You can base the tip on the pre-tax subtotal or on the taxed total — choose whichever your table prefers. The per-person split adjusts to match.

Why this is fairer

Because tax and tip follow each person's share of the items, nobody overpays the tip on someone else's steak, and nobody underpays on a big order. And no matter how the tip and tax fall, the per-person totals still sum to the exact grand total.
