Tax and tip are entered once for the whole bill, and SplitFair shares them out fairly — in proportion to what each person ordered. ## Enter the tax Type the tax amount from the receipt. It's spread across everyone by their share of the items, so a person with a larger order carries a proportionally larger part of the tax. ## Choose a tip Pick a tip preset (like 15%, 18%, 20%, or 25%) or enter a custom amount. A live readout shows the tip in money as you change it. ## Tip on pre-tax or total You can base the tip on the pre-tax subtotal or on the taxed total — choose whichever your table prefers. The per-person split adjusts to match. ## Why this is fairer Because tax and tip follow each person's share of the items, nobody overpays the tip on someone else's steak, and nobody underpays on a big order. And no matter how the tip and tax fall, the per-person totals still sum to the exact grand total.
